Are you looking to restore the C5 to concourse original standard? Most paintshos will mix and match paint to a sample. However for the primer, i would recommend a paint called Galvafriod, or similar, its a cold galvanising paint that will stop all rust in the future. It can be obtained fom any electrical wholesalers such as Newey and Eyres or Ednunsons or city electrical factors. Its used to treat galvanised items when they have been cut.

Thanks Jomac,

I want to restore to the orginal colour as possible and will pop in to Edmusons, as there is one near me for the primer. Any ideas on the name of the original colour of the chassis?

I started stripping my C5 yesterday as I was concerned that if left for the winter, the rust could do some serious damage. Removing the boot, I have noticed a hole in my chassis, near the motor and after brushing with a steel brush and wire wool, I found out it is about the size of a five pence piece!.

I am popping into a welding place sometime tommorrow to repair (if only I had done this last year!!!)

I have purchased some marine grease, which I will apply when I assemble the beast again, so hopefully fingers crossed this does not happen again. CFiver.

You may find the chassis a bit too thin to weld sucessfully to be honest, the chassis has been described in the past as glorified tinfoil strengthened with paint!!! and it doesnt help having the chassis ends open and exposed which is difficult to paint on the inside. You may consider cleaning the area around the hole back to bright metal and soldering a small piece of tin plate over the hole, fill prime and paint over that.

I did at one time have the correct RAL paint number for the chassis, but i cannot find it. But it wont be a problem getting the paint matched using colour coding tabs.
